Velingrad is the most beautiful and most famous among the Bulgarian Balneological resorts. It lies at the western end of Chepino Valley, one of the most attractive part of the Rhodopean Mountains in Southern Bulgaria. There are 70 sources of mineral water with curative and preventive properties.

Velingrad is a balneological and atmospheric resort. The most important natural resource of Velingrad is the mineral water. There are six known thermo-mineral water springs - Chepino, Ludgene 1, Ludgene 2, Kamenitsa, Draginovo and Varvarick Baths. About 80 springs gush up out of the ground and their quantity and composition combine together the healing effects of the waters in Hisarya, Banya and Nartechen at the same time. The resort is specialized in healing of pulmonary diseases, joint diseases, neurogical, gynaecological diseases, including sherility, renal, liver.

The city of Velingrad takes pride in another natural phenomenon - Kleptuza. This is the biggest Karst spring in Bulgaria with debit of 570 litres of ice cold water per second. Its water forms two lakes that flow into the river of Chepinska. The place of St.Spas is famed with the healing virtues of the patron saint of Good health.     
Very close to the city is the Belmeken dam lake, conducive for water sports and fishing.
A center of folklore festivals, Dorkovo village is 12 km of Velingrad. Remains of vertebrates, dating back to 4 -5 million years ago, have been discovered near the village.
The 1200 m long Lepenitsa cave, and the Mantarnitsa reserve are located southwest of the town.
