The town of Belogradchik is located 182 km. northwest from Sofia, 68 km to the northwest to Montana, 52 km southwest from Vidin and 12 km southwest from the Oreshets railway station. Amazing view of the landscape is revealed from the highest part of the fortress. The town of Belogradchik (6685 inhabitants, 520 m above sea level) is situated between both mountain massifs Venetsa and Vedernik (small sub-parts of Western Stara Planina), among the fantastic world of Belogradchik rocks. It is a town amidst a fantastic natural environment.

The most interesting places to visit are: 1. The Belogradchik Rocks - an unique natural phenomena. They are spread over an area that is 30 km long and 15 km wide. The fascinating stone sculptures have been formed for 200 million years. Every rock resembles silhouettes of people, ships, palaces, mushrooms, birds and animals, some of which rising up to 200 m high. Most of the rocks have their own names. 2. The Magurata cave - is one of the largest caves in Bulgaria, formed 3-4 millions years ago. The total length of the galleries, discovered till now, exceeds 2000 m. It consists of one main gallery and three side branches. The cave halls are enormous in size - over 200m long, 50m wide and 20m high. The cave offers excellent conditions for the production of champagne-like wines. 3. The Rabisha lake is next to the cave. This is the largest inland lake in Bulgaria. It is of tectonic origin and up to 35- 40m deep. It offers perfect conditions for swimming and fishing.
