Description:

The town of Isperih lies in Northeastern Bulgaria and represents an important crossroad between the towns of Razgrad and Silistra, Rousse and Dobrich, Shumen and Tutrakan. It is situated 40km to the northeast of Razgrad in the middle of the Danube Plain.

The town of Isperih
emerged in 1545, inheriting a medieval settlement. Following the arrival of its first setter, Kemal, and his family, the settlement carried his name for a long time - Kemallar. The grave of Kemal in the old cemetery of the town was long honoured by his successors.

In 1960, Isperih was declared a town. It carries the name of the founder of the first Bulgarian state, the Protobulgarian Asparuh, whose monument stands out in the centre of the town. The once small settlement has gradually grown into a modern town with big industrial plants, an agro-industrial complex, schools, kindergartens and healthcare establishments. It has a pleasant town centre with plenty of attractive cafes, and a lively Friday-morning market which attracts villagers from all over the region.

The biggest site in the region of Isperih is the Thracian tomb of Sveshtari.

 

Historical museum - Isperih was established in 1978 as a subsidiary of The Regional museum of history - Razgrad and it has been existing as autonomous museum since 21.05.1984. It seeks and carries out research on movable and immovable monuments of culture, it makes them accessible to scientific and educational research, makes treaties for Preservative proceedings of Art and Preservative proceedings of building and realizes investors control to Preservative proceedings of building, organizes permanent and temporary expositions, prepares and publishes scientific, popular and reference publications, provides guides service to visitors of The Historical and Archeological reservation of Sboryanovo.
