The town of Gabrovo is situated in the northern folds of the Balkan Mountains, in a narrow but picturesque valley of Yantra river. The earth formations of the region represent a number of small valleys, cut by gullies and ravines, narrow hills and rocky ridges with steep slopes. Near Gabrovo you can visit one very attractive place- the open-air ethnographical museum "Etara"- a place where is represented the life of the typical Bulgarian village in the past. Sokolski monastery is near by- one of the masterpieces of the famous Bulgarian builder Koliy Fitcheto.
